Moving in
Your home
Key day: a check-in report with photos protects you at the end, bills and residence go in your name, and the receipts are kept safe for tax deductions and for getting your deposit back.
How long: Moving-in day and the weeks after
How it works
1. Check-in report with photos
The condition of walls, floors, furniture and appliances, with the date and signatures.
2. Meters and bills
The readings on moving-in day, then the bills in your name.
3. Residence and TARI
At the Comune, after you move in.
4. The receipts
Contract, registration receipt and rent payments: you need them for the tenant tax deductions and to get your deposit back.
What it costs
- Bills: transfer or takeover of the account: the suppliers will tell you
Who does what
- Landlord or agent: hands over the keys and signs the check-in report with you
- Comune (town council): residence and TARI (waste tax)
- Suppliers: electricity, gas, internet
Watch out for
- The tax deductions for renting your main home depend on income and age (higher under 31): ask a CAF (tax assistance centre) or an accountant, as the rules change with the new TUIR (income tax code) from 2027.
- You get the deposit back at the end with statutory interest, if the home is as it was at the start: that's what the check-in report is for.
General guidance, up to date as of 20 October 2026: for important decisions, talk to a CAF (tax assistance centre), a tenants' union or a lawyer.
